Making a Difference
We are organising an art competition, sponsored by the Mayor of Havant and on the theme of Making a Difference. Follow the link to find out more. We aim to display the art around the Borough.
Letter to Tomorrow
We’re also inviting young people to write a letter to a loved one to share their hopes and dreams for our world and our future, and how they are taking action to protect what they love from the impacts of climate change. You can find ideas and activity packs on the same site.
Nature & Sustainability Roadshow
One of the main events we are supporting is this event at St Alban’s School in Havant on Saturday 10th June between 11.00 and 3.00. Julie Newman, the organiser, would welcome stalls run by other local schools or maybe a poster, illustrating what your school does. An excellent source of ideas is Global Dimension which links to loads of different groups including thse focusing on poorer countries (which of course are worst hit by the changing climate) and has produced some really good films.
The Eco-schools movement is growing and you might like to find out more. They offer a simple, seven-step framework that guides, empowers and motivates pupils to drive change and improve environmental awareness in their school, local community and beyond.
After completing the seven step process, schools can then apply for Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation, which recognises, rewards and celebrates the environmental achievements of young people.
They are promoting the the Let’s Go Zero award system for schools

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust are keen to see more local community groups and give out awards each year, St Alban’s Primary got one in 2021

Teach the Future is a campaign to get more environmental education into schools. They argue that students need to be taught about the climate emergency and ecological crisis: how they are caused, what we can do to mitigate them and what our future lives and jobs are going to look like due to them.

The Children’s Environmental Rights Initiative (CERI) recently circulated details of an interactive learning package called “Our Rights, Our Planet“. The package aims to help young people learn about and protect their rights and the environment.
The content covers the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), followed by explanations from several experts and child rights ambassadors. There is also a section on eco-anxiety.
This platform was developed by Articolo12, Children’s Environmental Rights Initiative (CERI), Terre des Hommes (TdH) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The training materials are available for all ages and targets children aged 12-16 and young people specifically.
