Devolution, Climate & Nature

As you probably know, Local Government devolution and reorganisation is under way, with Hampshire and Solent on a fast track to be a new strategic authority to include Hampshire county, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight.
For details on the proposed changes, Hampshire Climate Action Network Chair, Chris Holloway, has produced this briefing document which outlines the plans in the Government White Paper. She’ll keep it updated as events progress, so it’s worth checking back regularly.
Hampshire Climate Action Network has joined with the South East Climate Alliance and 13 other climate action networks from across England to urge the Government to build statutory duties on climate and nature into the Devolution White Paper currently under discussion in Parliament, so they are embedded at the heart of the new devolution framework from the outset.

Our Meeting on 21st March
There are other implications for climate groups too and we have invited Chris to come and tell us more and discuss:
What devolution will mean for climate and nature?
What we should be doing now to ensure that the new authority has a duty to take effective action on the climate and nature crises?
